Last Day Reflections

What did you learn about photography that you did not know before?
What I learned about photography this semester is how it gives us a deeper insight of who someone really is and how it can tell us someone's own personal story through just one picture. Everyone has a story. Not everyone is willing to share their stories, but the people who are willing to are the people that make for great photographs. Before this class I thought photography was just about making things look good, but after 2 quarters of being in here, Ive realized it is much more than what I thought. It allows people to express who they are and allows us to see the world through their eyes, which I believe is very important.

What did you learn about yourself?
The photographs I have taken have made me notice things about myself that I never have noticed before. My self portraits made me see myself through the eyes of another, and I am happy with the person I am that everybody sees me as. Through my self portraits, I learned more about my story and who I am then I ever knew before.

What do you wish we had done that we did not?
What I wish we had done was maybe take more photos of landscapes. I enjoy seeing the world from different heights. I saw the world's small things in the macro photos, but I wish we had maybe seen the world's larger things and how beautiful the world is around us. I know some people might have trouble getting to places to take these photographs, which I understand. It is probably impossible for every single person to find places to do this. Anyways, that is what I wished.

What was the struggle?
My biggest struggle was probably the Alphabet photography and tit and shift. For the ABC photography, it was difficult to find the unique letters that aren't normally found easily. For the tilt and shift, it was very hard to find a high place to take pictures from. For the most part, those were the ones I struggled with the most.

What did you conquer?
I conquered many things in the time I was in Photo 1. I did every assignment, and I got through the things I didn't think I was going to be able to do. I'm proud of what I have accomplished here. I couldn't accomplish the things I learned without being in this class. Things include, expressing myself in different ways and starting to find my story.

Light

In these silhouettes, I put a white sheet on the top of the ceiling and posed for the pictures. The first two photos were just for fun and trying to make silhouettes, but the last one shows me playing baseball. I used to play baseball, but not anymore. I still love to play though. I liked the way my the shadow figure of my body made you really see what I was doing. For example, the cowboy picture, you could see my open mouth, and because you could see that, it helps tell a story. What I could have done better was not get so many blurry pictures. If I didn't have the timer, the picture wouldn't have gone out of focus as much.

Direct light pictures were my favorite to do, because of the different ways the object looked and the shadow looked in different light. I liked the way the ornaments' shadows turned out because of the glass of the ornament. But my personal favorite was the chandelier. The shadow was on the ceiling, which made the shadow look exactly like the chandelier, except from a different angle. In most of these pictures you see the object and shadow from the same angle, but in the chandelier picture, you see the same object in two different angles. Most of the objects, like the guitar, tennis balls, and baseball, show what I like to do. The rest I thought would make for good direct light pictures because of the way the shadow was seen. It was difficult to find the right angle to put the light, but when I did find the right angle, they turned out the way I wanted.

In these pictures, I wanted to show you what i like to do and what my favorite things are. I like, being outside, christmas, and especially ketchup. Most of these pictures describe me, which I was trying to do in my self portraits. I didnt focus as much on my personality than i did showing people what i like to do.
